What is RTK and why do I need it for Drone Surveys

BUILT TO ENDURE

High-performance motors paired with 17-inch propellers ensure stable flight in strong winds.

The new dual-battery power system automatically heats batteries when flying in sub-zero temperatures,
while an enclosed design ensures weather and water resistance, so you can fly in a wide range of environments.

Find out more about the DJI Matrice 200 and its all weather technology.

Our Team has been testing the latest DJI drone (Matrice 200). It is a beast of a machine and allows drone operators such as ourselves pursue precision and accuracy throughout your drone survey. We are hoping to test it later this summer with our clients in East Anglia. We will further write a review on the outcome but please see below the specs.

The only answer to that question is a professional. At Norwich Media and our partner companies we take your project seriously and if we can’t do the job accurately we won’t do it at all. We value our product as well as valuing you as a client.

Who uses RTK?

Most professionals who say they do drone mapping or shall we say drone surveys use RTK but one indication that they are not is when you get a price of £££ in the region of £150 or £300. Bearing in mind the equipment cost thousands they either don’t value their service or the equipment they are using is of consumer level.

Does my drone operator use RTK?

Well.. lets say you have a drone mapping project and you want to measure precisely or accurately plan foundations for a building. Would digging a hole a few feet in the wrong place effect the foundations you set.. I think it would and further down the line you would have problems. What RTK does it not rely on GPS satellites used by maybe a DJI Phantom and it allows you to work to CM accuracy.

So what does that really mean in English?

RTK stands for Real Time Kinematic (RTK) and is a satellite navigation technique used to enhance the precision of position data derived from satellite-based positioning systems (global navigation satellite systems, GNSS) such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou.

The purpose of this blog entry is to understand the importance of RTK and what actually is RTK?
